Former United States international Matt Besler believes expectations for Team USA have never been higher — but he is not entirely confident his country can live up to them as host nation of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Besler, who earned 47 caps for the United States and represented his country at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil under then-manager Jurgen Klinsmann, spoke to Sky Sports News ahead of the tournament. He spent 12 seasons at his hometown club in Kansas City, turning down moves to Fulham and Sunderland to remain close to his family — a decision he stands by without regret.
Besler backs England as genuine contender
The 39-year-old is unequivocal in his praise for England, placing them among the favourites to lift the trophy this summer.
