Moses Usor has credited a pre-match pep talk from senior Super Eagles winger Moses Simon as the spark behind his stunning winning goal in Nigeria's 2-1 triumph over Madagascar in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The LASK winger came off the bench to deliver the decisive moment of a tightly fought contest, picking up the ball deep in Nigeria's own half before driving forward, evading two defenders, and firing a brilliant effort into the net.

Simon's words unlocked Usor's confidence

Usor, 24, explained that Simon's encouragement during the warm-up gave him the freedom to express himself on the pitch and take on opponents without hesitation.

"I was warming up with Moses Simon when they called me, and we went in together. He advised me to just play my game and be myself," Usor told the Super Eagles media. "He said if you have the ball and you want to go one-on-one, you can take the risk. He gave me the confidence to play the game."

Reflecting on the moment the ball hit the back of the net, the young winger admitted the experience still felt surreal. "I went in with the mentality of taking risks and showing what I can do. It's still a surprise to me — it still feels like a dream, playing at this level," he said. "After my goal, I went down on my knees to pray. I really thank God for it."

A dream debut with family watching

Beyond the goal itself, Usor spoke of the profound emotion of making his long-awaited Super Eagles debut in front of his family, who were present at the stadium to witness the occasion.

"It was a different feeling because my family were also there. I was really happy seeing everyone there," he said. "This is something I have always dreamt of. It's a good feeling being in camp with these players — alongside Lookman, Bassey, and the others."

Usor pledges to keep delivering

Following his eye-catching cameo, Usor made clear that the display against Madagascar was no one-off, pledging his full commitment to the Super Eagles cause each time he is called upon.

"I will always give my best whenever I'm on the pitch and contribute to the attack. I will do my best whenever I'm on the pitch and defend the badge," he said. "I know Nigerians will be expecting more from me, and I will continue to give my best for the team."
