Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is set to be reunited with his mother before Sunday's FIFA World Cup Group H clash against Uruguay, after US officials waived visa fees that had kept her from attending the tournament.
The 40-year-old stopper delivered a man-of-the-match display in Cape Verde's opening 0-0 draw against Spain, then moved reporters to tears when he revealed his mother could not make the trip to the United States because of the high cost of obtaining a visa.

US House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced on X that he had personally spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio to resolve the situation.
