Wolverhampton Wanderers have named César Peixoto as their new head coach, signing the Portuguese manager on a two-year deal as the club prepares for life in the Championship.
The 46-year-old joins from Gil Vicente, where he guided the club to a sixth-placed finish in the Primeira Liga during the 2025-26 season. He replaces Rob Edwards, who was dismissed last week following Wolves' relegation from the Premier League.
Peixoto's appointment marks his first managerial role outside Portugal. Notably, his time at Gil Vicente was the first occasion in his seven-year coaching career that he completed a full season at a single club.
Wolves will compete in the Championship for the first time since 2018 after finishing bottom of the Premier League last season — a difficult backdrop against which the club's hierarchy moved swiftly to identify a successor to Edwards.
Shi backs Peixoto to fit Wolves' vision
Executive chairman Nathan Shi was effusive in his praise for the incoming coach, citing Peixoto's character and drive as decisive factors in the appointment.
