Lamine Yamal has put injury fears to rest, declaring himself fit and ready for the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off on June 11 in North America.
The Barcelona winger suffered a left hamstring injury on April 22 during a Spanish league match against Celta Vigo — ironically, while converting a first-half penalty. After tucking away the spot-kick, Yamal signalled to the bench, then dropped to the ground as teammates rushed to celebrate, clutching the back of his left leg.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente included the 18-year-old in his World Cup squad despite the setback, saying last week that Yamal was expected to be available for either Spain's first or second group match. La Roja open their campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta.
Desperate not to miss the tournament
In an interview with RFEF, Yamal spoke candidly about the moment he felt the injury and what ran through his mind.
