Gift orban set for Return to Germany After verona snub

Gift orban's time in Italian football appears to be over, with Serie A club hellas verona deciding not to exercise their purchase option for the Nigeria international at the end of his loan spell.

The 23-year-old striker arrived at hellas verona last summer on loan from hoffenheim, with both clubs having agreed on a purchase clause as part of the deal. However, according to German outlet bild, the Italian club has chosen to walk away from making the move permanent.

A Season of Promise That Lost Steam

orban made a solid enough impact in Serie A, racking up seven goals and two assists across 28 league appearances for the Yellow and Blues. Those are decent numbers for a young striker adapting to a new league and country.

But his form hit a worrying wall — the Nigerian forward has not found the back of the net in nearly three months, a drought that may have played a significant role in hellas verona's decision to pass on a permanent deal.

Back to the bundesliga

With the loan set to expire at the end of the season, orban will head back to hoffenheim, where he remains contracted until 2029. The German club signed him in January 2025, paying €9 million to olympique lyon to bring him to the bundesliga.

At just 23, orban still has plenty of time to prove himself at the highest level. His goal tally in Serie A shows he has the quality to compete, but consistency will be the key if he is to convince hoffenheim — or another club — of his true worth going forward.

For Nigerian football fans, orban remains one of the more intriguing attacking talents in the Super Eagles pool. How he responds to this setback will be closely watched.
