Savio éblouit à ses débuts pendant que De Zerbi lui fixe un objectif ambitieux

"He lit the place up," Redknapp said after the final whistle. "This is what Tottenham want. Players like that who can get you off your seat. Who can cut inside and hit a ferocious left-footed shot. He was excellent."

The debut carried added significance given Tottenham's attacking struggles last season, when the club managed just 48 league goals and finished 17th in the Premier League. Savio himself recorded only three goal contributions in the Premier League in the previous campaign, a statistic that raised eyebrows when Spurs agreed to pay £85 million for his services.

Yet manager Roberto De Zerbi, while encouraged by what he saw, wasted no time in raising the bar for his new signing.

"Yes, it is a perfect day for him," De Zerbi said. "I think his biggest step and biggest improvement is to increase the number of goals because as qualities, I think he is one of the best wingers, but the best wingers score many goals. I spoke with him and we put the goal on 10 or 12 goals because we need 10 or 12 goals from the wingers. Last season we suffered too much because also the number of goals were not enough to compete for nothing more than that position."

Early signs of the spark Spurs have been missing

De Zerbi had publicly outlined what Savio needed to achieve to rank among the world's elite wingers even before Tuesday's debut, and he reinforced that message once the final whistle confirmed the victory. The challenge is clear — consistent output to match the undeniable quality.

Tottenham supporters, starved of genuine attacking excitement in recent seasons, responded to Savio's every touch with a febrile energy rarely seen at the club in the past year. His arrival promises much, but the harder tests — against Premier League defences with time to prepare — lie ahead.

As first impressions go, however, Savio's opening cameo at Tottenham made one thing abundantly clear: he is here to entertain, and, if De Zerbi gets his way, to score in volume.
