The Earthquakes return to MLS action on Wednesday, 22 July, hosting Orlando City — giving Gunn an early opportunity to make his mark.

A career spanning the Premier League

Gunn began his football journey at Manchester City before developing through two separate stints at Norwich City. He also represented Southampton and Stoke City during his career in England.

His most recent club was Nottingham Forest, whom he joined in August. Despite the Premier League side's lofty status, Gunn managed only a single substitute appearance before being released.

At San Jose, he will fight for the starting shirt against 32-year-old Brazilian Daniel and 34-year-old American Earl William Edwards Jr.
