Former Flying Eagles striker Ahmed Abdullahi has permanently joined Turkish Super Lig club Eyüpspor, ending a frustrating spell at Championship side Sunderland that never produced a single senior appearance.

The 22-year-old Nigerian has signed a two-year contract with the Istanbul-based club, with an option to extend for a further year.

Sunderland confirm exit

Sunderland made the departure official through a statement on their website. "Sunderland AFC can confirm Ahmed Abdullahi has joined Eyüpspor," the club said. "The Nigerian striker, who joined Sunderland from Belgian side Gent in August 2024, has put pen to paper on a permanent contract with the Turkish club. Everyone at Sunderland wishes Ahmed all the best as he continues his career in Turkey."

A fresh start in Istanbul

Abdullahi arrived at Sunderland from Belgian outfit Gent in August 2024, but a series of injuries denied him any opportunity to feature for the Black Cats at senior level. Despite remaining in contention during his time in the north-east, his involvement was limited to matchday squads for Carabao Cup and FA Cup fixtures against Huddersfield Town and Port Vale.

The move to Eyüpspor gives Abdullahi a genuine chance to rediscover his form and secure consistent first-team football — something his injury-disrupted stint in England was unable to provide.
