Fifteen clubs have booked their places in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2026/27 Group Stage after the Second Preliminary Round concluded on Sunday, with Al Ahly, Raja Club Athletic, AS FAR, and CS Sfaxien among the heavyweight sides set to feature in Wednesday's draw in Cairo.

Draw details and one place outstanding

The CAF Interclub Group Stage Draw takes place on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Headquarters in Cairo. The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup draw is scheduled for 14h00 Cairo time (11h00 GMT), followed by the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League draw at 15h00 Cairo time (12h00 GMT).

One Group Stage berth remains unresolved. Algeria's CR Belouizdad face either Mauritania's AS Douanes or Guinea's Hafia Club, with that tie still to be decided.

Al Ahly and the North African contingent

Al Ahly produced the most commanding display of the round, dismantling Uganda's Kitara FC 4-0 in Cairo to seal a 6-1 aggregate triumph. Morocco's Raja Club Athletic and AS FAR both navigated difficult fixtures to advance, while Tunisia's CS Sfaxien — three-time Confederation Cup champions — edged through on a 2-1 aggregate after a narrow 1-0 home win over Côte d'Ivoire's AF Amadou Diallo. Algeria's USM Alger had already sealed qualification earlier after Equatorial Guinea's Panthers FC withdrew.

Red Arrows stun Kaizer Chiefs

The most dramatic result of the round came in Durban, where Zambia's Red Arrows eliminated Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 on penalties. The South African side had won the return leg 1-0 to level the tie at 1-1 on aggregate, forcing a shootout that the Zambian side won. Togo's ASKO de Kara also advanced past Mali's FC Diarra on the away goals rule after a 3-3 aggregate draw.

Historic milestone for Durban City

Durban City made history by reaching the Group Stage for the first time, demolishing Mauritius' AS Port Louis 6-1 on aggregate. DR Congo's AS Maniema Union were equally impressive, recording identical 4-1 victories in both legs against Angola's Kabuscorp to advance 8-2 on aggregate.

Further qualifiers from across the continent

Libya's Al Ahly Tripoli secured an 8-1 aggregate win over Ethiopia's Welwalo Adigrat, and Mozambique's Black Bulls overcame Rwanda's Rayon Sports 4-2 on aggregate. Tanzania will have two representatives in the Group Stage: Azam FC qualified 2-1 on aggregate against Egypt's ZED FC, while Singida Black Stars earned a second consecutive Group Stage appearance after drawing 1-1 at home with Kenya's Tusker FC to complete a 2-1 aggregate win.

Mali's AS Real Bamako advanced 5-3 on aggregate against Tunisia's ES Zarzis, and Angola's Primeiro de Agosto eliminated DR Congo's DC Virunga 3-1 on aggregate.

The 16 clubs will be split into four groups of four. The top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals, with the Group Stage scheduled to begin in November 2026.
