The arrests followed a deeply troubled conclusion to the match itself. At the final whistle, Argentina's Leandro Paredes received a red card for grabbing Spain's Eric Garcia by the throat. Nahuel Molina appeared to strike Rodri, and members of Argentina's coaching staff were seen clashing with Spain players near the touchline.

Police move into family enclosure

According to Colombian broadcaster Noticias Caracol, tensions inside the section reserved for players' relatives escalated rapidly after the final whistle. Officers surrounded the enclosure as scuffles intensified, ultimately detaining at least 12 individuals. It remains unclear whether formal charges have been filed, as US authorities and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) have yet to release any official statements on the matter.

FIFA investigation launched

World football's governing body has confirmed it has opened a formal investigation into both the on-pitch incidents and the disturbances in the stands. Depending on the findings, Argentina players face the prospect of significant suspensions, while the AFA could be handed severe financial penalties.
