Arsenal Begin Premier League Title Defence Against Coventry on Opening Night

2 hours ago·2 min

Premier League champions Arsenal will kick off their title defence at home to newly-promoted Coventry on Friday August 21, live on Sky Sports at 8pm. The match marks Coventry's return to the top flight for the first time in 25 years, and it takes place at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal, who ended a 22-year wait for the title last season, follow up the opener with back-to-back away and home tests. They travel to Aston Villa on August 29 before hosting Xabi Alonso's Chelsea on September 5.

Meetings with Man City and Liverpool

The first clash between Arsenal and last season's runners-up Manchester City falls on November 28 at the Emirates Stadium. A week later, on December 5, Arsenal make the short trip to Tottenham for the first north London derby of the campaign.

The new year brings one of the schedule's most demanding spells: Arsenal face Manchester City away on January 30, then host Liverpool just seven days later on February 6 — back-to-back fixtures against two of the division's heavyweights.

The run-in

Arsenal's home clash with Tottenham is pencilled in for May 1, before the Gunners close out the season with fixtures against Leeds (May 8), Nottingham Forest (May 15), Everton (May 23), and a final-day home game against Brighton on May 30.
