Arsenal Close In on Free Transfer Signing of Goalkeeper Illan Meslier

Arsenal are on the verge of signing goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer, with the deal expected to be finalised after the 26-year-old visited the club's training centre in Hertfordshire on Tuesday to complete formalities and undergo a medical.
BBC Sport first reported Arsenal's interest in Meslier on 30 June, and an agreement between the two parties has since been reached. Meslier is out of contract this summer following his departure from Leeds, making him available at no cost.
Where Meslier fits in Arsenal's goalkeeping setup
The French goalkeeper is set to arrive as third-choice option behind first-choice David Raya and current second-choice Kepa Arrizabalaga. However, uncertainty surrounds Arrizabalaga's future at the club heading into next season.
Should Arrizabalaga leave, Meslier would step up into the number two role — a prospect that made the move attractive for a goalkeeper who had lost his starting berth at Leeds.
Meslier's arrival is also set to trigger a change further down the pecking order: teenage goalkeeper Tommy Setford will depart on loan this summer as a direct consequence of the incoming deal.
