Arsenal are in advanced talks with Galatasaray over a potential move for Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, with discussions said to involve two current Gunners players, according to The Telegraph.

The Premier League champions have spent the summer strengthening across the squad, signing midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United for £75m, defender Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen for £34.5m, Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis for £34m, and goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds United. Despite that activity, a marquee centre-forward remains a priority for manager Mikel Arteta.

Martinelli and Nwaneri at the heart of the talks

The Telegraph reports that negotiations between Arsenal and Galatasaray over Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri have opened the door to discussions about Osimhen. Galatasaray have already submitted a bid of £38.4m for winger Martinelli, and have also registered interest in 19-year-old attacking midfielder Nwaneri, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille.

It remains unclear whether it was Arsenal or Galatasaray who first raised the prospect of Osimhen moving to North London, and there is no confirmation that either Martinelli or Nwaneri — or both — would need to move in the opposite direction for any deal to be struck.

Osimhen's record makes him a compelling target

Osimhen, 27, has been one of the most prolific forwards in European football in recent years. He scored 32 goals for Galatasaray during a loan spell from Napoli in 2024/25 before the Istanbul club made the move permanent in a €75m deal, signing him to a four-year contract. He then added 22 goals last term.

The 2023 African Footballer of the Year was instrumental in Napoli's Serie A title triumph in 2022/23 and has demonstrated his quality in the UEFA Champions League, netting seven times in 10 appearances last season — including the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool.

Should Osimhen arrive at the Emirates Stadium, he would join a forward line that already includes Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus.

Where Osimhen fits in Arsenal's target list

Arsenal have been linked with a number of high-profile attackers this summer, among them Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid, Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola. The Telegraph notes that Alvarez had been rated above Osimhen in Arsenal's list of priorities — but Atletico Madrid's valuation of the Argentina forward, reported at over £100m, has prompted the Gunners to consider alternatives.

Whether Osimhen ultimately emerges as Arsenal's first-choice solution up front depends on how the Martinelli and Nwaneri negotiations develop — and whether both clubs can agree terms on what is shaping up to be an unusually complicated deal.
