Four matches into the 2026/27 campaign, Arsenal stand alone at the summit — the only side in the top flight to have conceded just once. They have won every game and look formidable in a way that few English sides have managed so early in a season.
A commanding early lead
Alongside Manchester City, Arsenal are already four points clear of the rest of the Premier League. That gap matters. The two clubs have finished first and second in three of the last four seasons, and history appears to be repeating itself.
Manager Mikel Arteta must take considerable satisfaction from how his side have begun their title defence. As reigning champions, Arsenal carry themselves with a calm authority — measured, composed, and rich in experience. The five opponents who have faced them across the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League have encountered a team capable of digging out results even in difficult moments.
Strength on and off the pitch
The depth at Arteta's disposal only underlines Arsenal's strength. The substitutes' bench for their recent win featured Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Piero Hincapie, Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres, and the match-winner Bruno Guimaraes. Few rivals in the division can come close to that quality in reserve.
Invincibles comparisons
Inevitably, talk has turned to the 2003/04 season, when Arsene Wenger steered Arsenal through an entire 38-match Premier League campaign without a single defeat — a feat no English men's side had achieved before. That squad boasted Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole, and Patrick Vieira.
The current Arsenal side may not carry the same individual brilliance of those legends, but they have cultivated their own identity: disciplined, relentless, and tactically sophisticated. They have built, over several seasons, a fierce collective will to win that makes them genuinely difficult to break down.
It is, of course, far too early to speak seriously about another unbeaten campaign. But then Wenger himself floated the idea publicly a year before it actually happened — and eventually delivered.
A long road ahead
Manchester City appear best placed to challenge Arsenal for the title and perhaps the most capable of ending their unbeaten run when the two sides meet at the end of November. Beyond that meeting, there are too many matches, too many variables, and too much football still to be played for any bold predictions to carry real weight.
An unbeaten season remains possible — but the smart money says the Gunners will drop points somewhere along the way.
