Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signalled that the club remain determined to strengthen and evolve their squad ahead of the new season, even as their transfer activity has been quieter than that of several high-spending rivals.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Arteta made clear that the Gunners have no intention of standing still in the market. "We are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team. That's clear. We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously, because we want to get better like anybody else," he said.

"The transfer market and our opponents, what we are doing — we won't sit still. And we are very ambitious in what we want to do. The margins are very small. And because we want to get better and the level is going to increase, we need to increase the competition internally."

Arteta also stressed the importance of identifying gaps in the current squad. "We need to make sure we identify the things that we don't have in the team, to have bigger margins. And that's the way we have to think," he added.

Linked moves and summer business so far

Arsenal have been far less active in the market this summer compared to big-spending clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Chelsea. The Gunners have, however, already secured the signing of Christos Tzolis, brought in as a replacement for the departed Leandro Trossard.

Arteta declined to comment directly on reports linking Arsenal with Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr., but the club's pursuit of both players is understood to be ongoing. A deal for either would represent a significant statement of intent from the North London side as they bid to close the gap on the Premier League's elite.
