Taiwo Awoniyi has added an academic distinction to his footballing career, graduating with Merit from the PFA Business School in the Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship.

The Nigeria striker, 29, shared the news on Instagram, calling it another proud moment away from the pitch — and one that reflects a long-held belief that professional footballers need not stop learning.

"I have always believed that being a footballer shouldn't stop you from being a student of the game, and education has become an important part of that journey for me. Still playing. Still learning. The journey continues."

Awoniyi framed the achievement not as an endpoint but as part of an ongoing commitment to personal development that runs in parallel with his playing career.

A career built across continents

Awoniyi began his professional journey at Imperial Academy in Nigeria before Liverpool signed him in 2015. His path through European football took him to several clubs, including Union Berlin and Nottingham Forest, as well as consistent appearances for Nigeria at senior international level.

He currently represents Coventry City in the Premier League, having moved from Nottingham Forest in August 2026.
