Barcelona Eye Bayern Munich's Kane as World Cup Knockout Phase Looms

Barcelona are considering a move for Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich striker and England captain, as speculation mounts over his future heading into the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout rounds.
Sky Sports News understands that Kane and his family have settled comfortably in Munich and that his attention is firmly fixed on England's campaign at the tournament. Barcelona, meanwhile, are working through the financial logistics of how such a transfer could be structured.
Despite having just one year remaining on his contract at Bayern Munich, both the club and Kane himself are reported to be relaxed about the situation. There is no indication of urgency on either side.
A season of historic numbers
The reasons for Barcelona's interest are not difficult to understand. Kane finished the 2025/26 club season with 61 goals and seven assists in 51 appearances — a haul that places him alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, the last player to reach that total in all competitions, who did so for Real Madrid in the 2014/15 season.
Including international football, Kane has now scored 70 goals across club and country this season. At the World Cup, he has added three more to that tally.
Kane also claimed the European Golden Shoe for the second time in his career, finishing as the top scorer across Europe's top five leagues. Only a handful of players have won the award twice, and only Lionel Messi, with six, and Ronaldo, with four, have won it more often.
On the domestic front, Kane collected three trophies with Bayern Munich this season: the German Super Cup, the Bundesliga title, and the DFB Pokal.
Neville: 'He's gold'
I can see why Barcelona would want him. I can see why any club in the world would want him that is trying to win trophies at an elite level. Harry Kane is as reliable as you can get. In football and in life, you want reliability. You want players who you know are going to deliver for you. He does that. I describe him as gold — he's incredible and you know exactly what you are going to get.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was unequivocal in his assessment, adding that England know precisely what Kane will bring as the World Cup enters its knockout phase — a stage Neville described as where the tournament truly begins.
