Barcelona Sign Rodri From Manchester City in £65 Million Deal

Barcelona have reached an agreement to bring Rodri back to Spain, with the transfer fee set at approximately £65 million. The 30-year-old Ballon d'Or winner is expected to complete a four-year contract with the Spanish champions in the coming days.

Rodri first arrived in the Premier League in 2019 when Manchester City signed him from Atletico Madrid for a then club-record £62.8 million. Over seven seasons at the Etihad, he made 298 appearances and collected 12 major honours — including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups, and the Champions League triumph in 2022-23.

Injury setbacks and World Cup redemption

Injuries complicated Rodri's final two seasons at Manchester City. A serious knee problem ruled him out for much of the 2024-25 campaign, while a hamstring issue disrupted parts of the season before that.

Despite those setbacks, Rodri returned to the highest level when it mattered most. He captained Spain through a commanding World Cup campaign in the summer, guiding his country to a second world title and earning the player of the tournament award in the process.

His move to Barcelona reunites him with Spanish football and marks the end of an extraordinary chapter at Manchester City — one defined by relentless winning and two of the most celebrated midfield performances of his generation.
