Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy has indicated the Bluebirds are on the verge of completing at least one transfer before their Carabao Cup second-round clash with Norwich City on Tuesday, 25 August.
Barry-Murphy declined to specify which position Cardiff are targeting, but confirmed the club are actively pursuing a centre-back after a shortage in that area was exposed during their 2-2 Championship draw at Derby County.
Injury crisis at centre-half
The Bluebirds are currently without Dylan Lawlor, Calum Chambers, Will Fish, and Gabriel Osho through injury, leaving full-backs Perry Ng and Joel Bagan to deputise in the heart of defence against Derby.
Osho sustained a knee injury in the match against Wrexham, deepening an already stretched defensive unit.
