Ejuke Nets on Return as Sevilla Down Athletic Bilbao 3-1 in LaLiga

1 hour ago·1 min

Nigeria winger Chidera Ejuke made an immediate impression off the bench as Sevilla claimed a comfortable 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in their LaLiga fixture on Saturday.

Ten-man Bilbao undone by numerical disadvantage

The match was shaped early when Athletic Bilbao's Yuri Berchiche received a red card in the 11th minute, leaving the hosts to battle with ten men for the remainder of the game. Sevilla wasted little time exploiting the advantage — Oso broke the deadlock just four minutes after the dismissal to put the visitors ahead.

Ejuke's impact from the substitutes' bench

Ejuke came on at half-time in place of Miguel Angel Sierra and immediately made his presence felt. The Nigerian international doubled Sevilla's lead in the 50th minute, converting a pass from Isaac Romero with a composed finish.

Romero added his own name to the scoresheet seven minutes later, stretching the Rojiblancos' advantage to 3-0 and effectively ending the contest.

Bilbao's consolation cannot alter the outcome

Athletic Bilbao pulled one back through Aitor Paredes in the 70th minute, but Sevilla defended with confidence to secure all three points and deny the hosts any hope of a comeback.

Sevilla will next welcome Atletico Madrid to their home ground in LaLiga, while Athletic Bilbao face a trip to face Barcelona.
