Tella remains sidelined by injury and is yet to make a single appearance for Leverkusen this season. Boniface has managed just one outing in the campaign so far, contributing one assist in that solitary showing.

Leipzig's disallowed goal changes the game

RB Leipzig began the match with intent, pushing forward early and forcing goalkeeper Mark Flekken into a series of sharp saves. The visitors appeared to break the deadlock in the 34th minute when Christopher Nkunku found the net, but a VAR review overturned the effort.

That decision proved decisive. With Leipzig still seeking an opener, Leverkusen struck on the stroke of half-time — Miguel Gutiérrez provided the assist and Patrik Schick converted with clinical precision to make it 1-0 in the 44th minute.

Schick's streak and Gutiérrez's masterclass

The goal extended Schick's remarkable run — the Czech forward has now scored in each of Leverkusen's first four Bundesliga matches this season. He took his opportunity with the composure that has defined his early-season form.

Leverkusen doubled their advantage in the 57th minute, with Gutiérrez capping a standout individual display by getting his name on the scoresheet. The full-back had already created the first goal and added one of his own to cap a commanding afternoon's work.

Leipzig pressed in the closing stages and enjoyed extended spells of possession, but Leverkusen's defence absorbed the pressure without alarm. The result lifts Leverkusen to 10th place in the Bundesliga standings, their second league win of the season.
