Bayer Leverkusen Lead Race for Rangers Defender Emmanuel Fernandez

Bayer Leverkusen have stepped up their efforts to sign Rangers centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez, with fresh contacts made between the Bundesliga champions and the Scottish club, according to TEAMtalk.
Fernandez joined Rangers last summer from Peterborough United, then competing in English League One, and wasted little time making an impression at Ibrox. The Nigeria international capped a standout debut season by winning Rangers' Player of the Season award, having scored five goals from the heart of defence for the Light Blues.
His performances also earned him a place in the PFA Team of the Year, cementing his status as one of the most exciting centre-backs in Scottish football.
A crowded transfer market
Bayer Leverkusen are not alone in their admiration. Fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are also monitoring the Nigerian defender, while Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham United, and Everton have been keeping close tabs on him.
Rangers have placed a valuation of around €25 million on Fernandez — a substantial markup on the £3.5 million they paid Peterborough United to secure his signature less than 12 months ago.
With talks expected to accelerate over the coming weeks, Bayer Leverkusen appear best positioned to push through a deal for the Super Eagles defender.
