Bayern Munich Target Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha After Missing Out on Bradley Barcola

Bayern Munich have set their sights on Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha, according to a report from German outlet BILD, placing the English club in a difficult position over the future of one of their most exciting prospects.
The 18-year-old winger caught the eye from the moment he arrived at Anfield early last year, earning a place in the first-team plans under Arne Slot before Andoni Iraola took charge at the start of this season. His rapid rise has now attracted attention from one of Europe's most powerful clubs.
The Barcola connection
Bayern's interest in Ngumoha stems directly from their failure to land Bradley Barcola over the summer. The Bavarians were keen on the French winger, but balked at Paris Saint-Germain's asking price — Liverpool ultimately secured Barcola's signature for a reported £106 million, with a further £17 million in potential add-ons, according to The Athletic.
Having missed out on Barcola, Bayern are now looking at Ngumoha as a less costly alternative to provide competition for Luis Diaz, whom Liverpool sold to the German giants last summer.
Injury crisis forces Bayern's hand
The urgency of Bayern's pursuit is driven by a mounting injury crisis at the Allianz Arena. Since choosing not to bring in a winger during the transfer window, Vincent Kompany's squad have lost Diaz, Serge Gnabry, and Jamal Musiala to injury. The situation was stark enough that Alphonso Davies was deployed as a makeshift left-winger in Bayern's UEFA Champions League clash against Arsenal just two weeks ago.
Reports suggest Bayern could move as early as January to address the problem, piling pressure on Ngumoha and Liverpool to reach a decision quickly.
The Musiala blueprint
Bayern's approach to Ngumoha echoes a strategy the club have employed before. When Musiala was just 16, Bayern lured the Stuttgart-born, London-raised teenager away from England to develop in the Bundesliga — a move that paid off handsomely as Musiala went on to switch international allegiance to Germany and claim the No. 10 shirt for both club and country. Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham had already shown that moving to Germany as a teenager could fast-track a young player's career.
Ngumoha, valued at around €50 million by Transfermarkt, would represent a considerably cheaper acquisition than Barcola. Liverpool, meanwhile, have bolstered their left-wing options with Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Victor Munoz, and Barcola himself — which may complicate Ngumoha's path to regular first-team football under Iraola, and could make a sale harder to dismiss out of hand.
The England international now faces a defining choice about his development and his future, with Bayern Munich offering one very compelling answer.
