The BBC has confirmed its on-air team for the FIFA World Cup group stage clash between Austria and Jordan, with coverage getting underway on BBC One from 4:50am UK time — just ten minutes before kick-off.

Austria's appearance at this World Cup ends a 28-year absence from the tournament, while Jordan are embarking on their maiden World Cup campaign. The two sides meet at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, with a local kick-off time of 9pm.

No studio, straight to the pitch

Given the early-morning start time for UK viewers, the BBC opted against any pre-match studio coverage, cutting directly to the action with commentators Robyn Cowen and Andy Reid in the booth.

Who is Andy Reid?

Reid is a former professional midfielder from Ireland, widely respected for his technical quality and his precise left foot throughout his playing career.

He made more than 100 appearances for Nottingham Forest, and also represented Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland in the Premier League, earning 29 caps for the Republic of Ireland along the way.
