BBC Confirms Broadcast Team for Uruguay vs Cape Verde at World Cup 2026

2 hours ago·1 min

UK viewers will be able to follow the FIFA World Cup 2026 clash between Uruguay and Cape Verde live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with kick-off set for 11pm BST. Coverage begins 30 minutes before the first whistle.

Studio team

Alex Scott leads the broadcast as presenter. Scott built a distinguished playing career at Arsenal and with the Lionesses before transitioning into media work.

She will be joined in the studio by Ashley Williams and Benni McCarthy as expert analysts. Williams came through Stockport County before going on to represent Swansea and Everton in the Premier League, and earned 86 caps for Wales during his international career.

McCarthy brings his own impressive credentials — the former South Africa striker scored 32 goals in 79 appearances for his country. His club career spanned Ajax, Celta Vigo, Porto, and Blackburn Rovers, among other stops.

Commentary

Liam McLeod takes the lead commentary role. A BBC broadcaster for more than 20 years, McLeod serves as the lead football commentator at BBC Scotland.

Joining him on commentary duties is James McFadden, a former Scotland international who represented clubs including Everton, Motherwell, and Birmingham City throughout his playing career.

The stakes

Cape Verde arrive at this fixture riding the momentum of a shock draw against Spain, and will be eager to push for a place in the knockout rounds. Uruguay, meanwhile, are seeking a response after a disappointing draw with Saudi Arabia in their opening game under manager Marcelo Bielsa.
