Bellingham to Lead England's Attack Against Croatia in World Cup Opener

Jude Bellingham is set to wear the coveted number 10 shirt and start in England's attacking midfield role for their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener against Croatia on Wednesday.
Speculation had grown around who would occupy that central attacking position following the rise of Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa as a genuine contender for the berth. However, manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to turn to Bellingham, 22, for the Group L fixture in Dallas, which kicks off at 21:00 BST.
Midfield trio takes shape
The Real Madrid midfielder will not shoulder the creative burden alone. Declan Rice of Arsenal and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson are expected to line up alongside Bellingham, forming what could be a dynamic and well-balanced midfield unit.
Rice brings defensive solidity and drive from deep, while Anderson's energy and mobility could complement Bellingham's ability to influence games in the final third. Together, the three are set to form the engine room of England's challenge in Group L.
Croatia, who reached the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the semi-finals in 2022, represent a formidable opening test for England. Tuchel's side will need their midfield to fire if they are to take control early in the tournament.
With Bellingham fit and available, England will be relieved their most dynamic attacking option is ready to go from the first whistle in Dallas.
