Bernardo Silva Joins Real Madrid on Free Transfer

Bernardo Silva has completed a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract under manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese midfielder, 31, departed Manchester City after nine years at the club, during which he accumulated an impressive haul of silverware.
Several clubs were said to be tracking Silva's availability, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both reportedly keen on securing his services. Ultimately, it is Real who won the race for his signature.
Second free arrival of the summer
Silva becomes Real Madrid's second cost-free addition of the transfer window. Defender Marc Cucurella arrived earlier in the summer from Chelsea — in a deal valued at £52 million — and now Silva bolsters the midfield without a transfer fee.
It has been a difficult campaign to reflect on for Real. They finished eight points adrift of La Liga winners FC Barcelona and suffered a quarter-final exit in the UEFA Champions League, ending the season without a single trophy.
Portugal duty and squad movement
Silva is currently representing Portugal at the World Cup and is expected to be a key figure for his nation throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, Real are reportedly pursuing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries as they continue to reshape their squad. France defender Ibrahima Konate is also set to arrive at the club after parting ways with Liverpool.
On the defensive front, Antonio Rudiger committed his future to Real Madrid this week by extending his contract through to 2027.
