Thomas Tuchel has offered a robust defence of the substitutions he made during England's World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina — the decisions that remain the most debated moment of England's tournament campaign.

England had been 1-0 up, courtesy of an Anthony Gordon goal, and were within five minutes of extra time of reaching a first World Cup final since 1966. But goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez in the final stages ended those dreams, after Tuchel had switched to a back five midway through the second half.

Speaking in an England documentary that revisits the entire tournament, Tuchel was unapologetic about carrying the burden of those calls.
