Bernardo Silva Signs Two-Year Deal With Real Madrid After Leaving Manchester City

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Bernardo Silva on a free transfer, with the Portugal midfielder agreeing to a two-year contract that runs until 30 June 2028.
Silva's arrival at the Bernabéu follows the expiry of his nine-year contract at Manchester City, where he established himself as one of the Premier League's most decorated players. Real Madrid announced the agreement on Wednesday via their official website.
A trophy-laden chapter at City
Silva joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017 and went on to score 76 goals in 460 appearances for the club. During his time there, he collected 16 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League.
In his final season at City, Silva wore the captain's armband and featured in all 38 Premier League matches as the club finished second. They did, however, win both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup that term.
Madrid's summer recruitment drive
Real Madrid's pursuit of Silva saw them beat off competition from LaLiga rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, both of whom had submitted offers for the 31-year-old. Silva ultimately chose the reigning LaLiga champions.
Silva becomes the latest addition to a busy summer at the Bernabéu. Real Madrid have also brought in Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella for £51.8 million and extended the contract of centre-back Antonio Rudiger following the return of head coach Jose Mourinho.
Eyes on the World Cup
Silva now turns his attention to international duty. He is set to represent Portugal at FIFA World Cup 2026, with their Group K campaign opening on Wednesday evening against DR Congo.
