Bournemouth Hammer Genoa 10-1 in Stunning Pre-Season Rout

1 hour ago·2 min

Bournemouth delivered a statement performance in pre-season on Wednesday, dismantling nine-time Italian Serie A champions Genoa 10-1 in a breathtaking friendly that showcased the attacking depth at manager Marco Rose's disposal.

Justin Kluivert was the standout performer, bagging a hat-trick, while Alex Scott and Enes Ünal each scored twice. Daniel Jebbison, David Brooks, and Malcom Dacosta Gonzalez also got on the scoresheet in a comprehensive team display.

How the goals came

The Cherries broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when Kluivert seized on a loose pass in the final third and laid the ball off for Evanilson. The striker's initial effort was saved, but Scott was sharp to slam home the rebound.

Genoa hit back on 34 minutes when striker Mikael Ellertsson beat the offside trap and applied a composed finish to make it 1-1.

Bournemouth restored their advantage on 50 minutes after Adrien Truffert was brought down in the box. Kluivert stepped up and drove the penalty into the top corner.

The Cherries then struck twice more before the hour mark. Kluivert got the final touch on Truffert's powerful left-footed effort, then converted a second penalty after Ben Gannon-Doak was fouled in the area — his hat-trick complete.

Wholesale changes followed after 60 minutes, yet the goals kept coming. Scott curled into the bottom corner after Jebbison teed him up on the edge of the box to make it 5-1. Brooks tucked away a third penalty of the afternoon on 80 minutes after being brought down inside the area.

Jebbison then crashed into the top corner from Adam Smith's driven cross to make it 7-1. Dacosta Gonzalez was alert in the six-yard box to slam home an eighth on 94 minutes.

Charlie Stevens — a Wales under-19 international — burst from midfield to set up Ünal, who tapped home to make it 9-1. The Turkey striker then followed in to complete the rout after Dacosta Gonzalez's shot was initially parried, rounding the scoreline off at 10-1.

Three from three in Austria

The result means Rose's side have won all three of their pre-season friendlies during their Austria training camp, having also beaten St. Pauli and Augsburg. Their next test is a trip to face La Liga side Real Betis on Saturday.
