The 21-year-old Uruguay youth international, who is also eligible to play for Spain, would pen a five-year contract with the Cherries should a deal be concluded. Those familiar with the negotiations stress that discussions are still ongoing.

Real Madrid stand to collect 50 percent of any fee paid for Rodriguez, having sold him to their La Liga rivals Elche last summer. The Spanish giants retained that sell-on clause as part of the original agreement.

Strengthening the squad after a record season

Bournemouth are moving to bolster their ranks following a record Premier League finish that earned them a place in the UEFA Europa League. The achievement came under former manager Andoni Iraola, who has since departed to take charge of Liverpool.
