Brentford Promote Benjamin Fredrick and Hand Him Four-Year Deal

1 hour ago·1 min

Brentford have handed Super Eagles centre-back Benjamin Fredrick a new four-year contract and elevated him to their first-team squad ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season, with the club also holding an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

The 21-year-old originally arrived at Brentford B on loan from Simoiben Football Academy in August 2023, performing well enough to secure a permanent transfer in April 2024. While with the B team, he featured in the matchday squads for two Premier League matches and two FA Cup ties.

Loan spell and injury setback

Fredrick spent last season on loan at Belgian Pro League club Dender EH, where he accumulated meaningful senior experience before a serious injury brought his campaign to an abrupt end. The setback occurred while he was on international duty for Nigeria — representing the Super Eagles in their 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff against the Democratic Republic of Congo in November.

That injury has kept the defender sidelined for several months, but Brentford are now preparing to reintegrate him into the fold with a clear path into the first team.

Brentford's head coach expressed strong faith in the defender's long-term development, emphasising both his international pedigree and the work still ahead of him.
