CAF Confirms Samson Adamu as New General Secretary
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed Samson Adamu as its new General Secretary, following a formal endorsement by the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) this week.
Adamu had been serving in the role on an acting basis since March 2026. His permanent appointment comes after a wide-ranging recruitment process, during which the position was publicly advertised and multiple candidates were interviewed, according to CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe.
A career built inside African football
Adamu first joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions, before moving into the position of Director of Tournaments and Events. Across those roles, he accumulated hands-on experience overseeing some of the continent's biggest football occasions.
Among the competitions he helped deliver is the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations — CAF's premier tournament and the most-watched football event on the African calendar.
Academic credentials and institutional knowledge
Adamu holds a graduate qualification from the FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport — a credential that underlines both his academic grounding and his deep familiarity with the governance structures of the global game.
In his new role, Adamu will be responsible for CAF's day-to-day administration and will support the delivery of the organisation's strategic priorities across the continent.
