Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has conceded that teenage winger Estevao has forced his way into serious contention for a starting berth, following a standout display on his first Premier League start of the season.
The 19-year-old Brazilian was a constant menace to the opposition defence throughout the match, producing a performance that highlighted the exceptional attacking talent at Alonso's disposal. Chelsea sealed the victory courtesy of a brilliant solo effort from Morgan Rogers.
Two goals ruled out, but Estevao impresses regardless
Estevao was denied twice by the offside flag, yet his directness, sharp movement, and ability to pick out teammates left a lasting impression. He manufactured several clear-cut chances for the Blues despite the misfortune of having his own efforts chalked off.
Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, Alonso credited Estevao's mentality as much as his technical ability, pointing to the teenager's competitive response to limited game time earlier in the campaign.
