CAF Opens Bidding Process for AFCON 2028, 2032, and 2036

1 hour ago·1 min

The Confédération Africaine de Football has called on all 54 of its Member Associations to come forward with bids to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2028, 2032, and 2036, launching what promises to be a highly competitive selection process for three consecutive editions of the continent's flagship football tournament.

AFCON stands as the largest sporting event on the African continent and ranks among the most-watched competitions on the planet, drawing more than 3.2 billion television viewers and generating over six billion digital views worldwide.

A transparent bidding framework

To govern the selection process, CAF has developed a dedicated Bidding Framework with guidance from its independent expert adviser, PwC, alongside technical, financial, and legal specialists. The framework is designed to ensure a transparent, credible, and ethical evaluation of all candidate nations, in line with global best practices.

Each AFCON edition will be awarded to either a single host country or a group of co-hosts, with the framework setting out the criteria against which all bids will be assessed.

Eyes already on AFCON 2027

Before the focus turns fully to those future editions, the immediate spotlight falls on the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027, which Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda will jointly host from 19 June 2027 to 17 July 2027 — marking a landmark tri-nation tournament for East Africa.

CAF has also confirmed that it will stage a senior men's national team competition every calendar year, with the sole exception of years in which the FIFA World Cup takes place.

Further announcements regarding CAF national team competitions are expected in due course. Member Associations seeking additional information can contact CAF at communications@cafonline.com.
