Cagliari Striker Yael Trepy Out of Induced Coma After Pool Near-Drowning
Cagliari striker Yael Trepy has been brought out of a medically induced coma and no longer needs mechanical ventilation, following a near-drowning incident in a swimming pool last Sunday.
The 20-year-old French forward is still receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari, Sardinia. According to the club's official statement, doctors report that Trepy is fully alert, responsive, and shows no signs of neurological damage.
How the incident unfolded
Trepy got into difficulty after entering the deep end of a swimming pool where he was unable to touch the bottom, resulting in him inhaling a significant amount of water.
Medical staff at Santissima Annunziata Hospital gradually reduced sedatives and ventilator support administered to the player, allowing him to regain consciousness naturally over time.
Stable but still in intensive care
Cagliari confirmed that Trepy's respiratory and cardiovascular conditions remain stable. The forward, who joined the club in 2022 and made a promising impression on his Serie A debut, is continuing his recovery under close medical supervision.
Given that he remains in intensive care, Trepy is not expected to be available for Cagliari's Serie A season opener against Parma on the 22nd.
