Cardiff City have secured the permanent transfer of centre-back Krystian Bielik from fellow Championship side West Bromwich Albion, the club confirmed. The 28-year-old has penned a three-year contract at Cardiff City Stadium, with the fee remaining undisclosed.

Bielik expressed his delight at the move, telling the club's official website:

"I'm very excited, I'm finally here and I couldn't be happier. I'm looking forward to starting with the team as soon as possible and focusing on the first game."

The Poland international started his career in England after joining Arsenal from Legia Warsaw in 2015. He subsequently had stints at Birmingham City, Walsall, Charlton Athletic, and Derby County before arriving at West Bromwich Albion last summer, where he made 17 Championship appearances as the club narrowly escaped relegation to League One, finishing 21st.

Versatile enough to operate as a defensive midfielder as well as a centre-back, Bielik becomes Cardiff City's fourth senior addition of the summer window — joining goalkeeper Nathan Trott, midfielder Jack Moylan, and left-back Calum Scanlon, who returned to Wales on loan from Liverpool.

His arrival comes at a critical moment. Cardiff City are currently without a fit senior central defender, with Will Fish, Dylan Lawlor, Calum Chambers, and Gabriel Osho all sidelined through injury, though Osho is believed to be nearing a comeback.

The defensive crisis was underlined midweek when Cardiff City handed a debut to 15-year-old Noah Anyadike — who became the youngest player in EFL Cup history — during a 2-1 defeat to Norwich City in the second round of the competition on Tuesday night.

Bielik spoke of his familiarity with Cardiff City as an opponent:

"I've played a few times against Cardiff City, and it's never been an easy place to come to. It's always got a great atmosphere, so it will be a pleasure to be here playing for this club. I'm ready, fit and healthy, and can't wait to start with the team tomorrow and prepare for the big game on Saturday."

The defender is expected to be in contention for his debut when Cardiff City host Chris Wilder's Sheffield United at home on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
