Celtic Chase Torino's Gineitis as Rangers Open Door for Raskin Exit

1 hour ago·2 min

Celtic are preparing to intensify their pursuit of Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis once their Champions League play-off commitments conclude, with the club set to step up talks for the 22-year-old following Tuesday's second leg away to LASK in Linz.

The Scottish champions are simultaneously closing in on a separate midfield addition. Celtic look set to complete a £7 million deal for Ermin Mahmic, a 21-year-old Bosnian international who impressed at the World Cup, signing the Slovan Liberec man regardless of their European result.

Ghedjemis attracts cross-border interest

Celtic have also made a £7.7 million offer for Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis, a move that places them in a crowded race — Rangers, Monaco, and Besiktas are all reported to be monitoring the winger's situation as well.

The development underscores just how active both Glasgow clubs are in this transfer window, with Celtic targeting multiple midfield and wide positions while their city rivals are also exploring attacking options.

Rangers open door for Raskin

At Ibrox, Rangers have received concrete enquiries from clubs in England, Italy, and Spain over Belgium midfielder Nico Raskin. According to Rangers Review, the club are willing to sanction his departure if an offer meets their asking price — a notable development given Raskin still has two years remaining on his contract.

The volume of interest signals that Raskin has established himself as one of the more coveted midfielders in Scottish football, and Rangers appear unwilling to stand in his way if the money is right.

Scottish FA push for homegrown talent

Away from the transfer activity, Scottish FA chief football officer Craig Mulholland has outlined a commitment to increasing the number of homegrown players in Scottish club football. Mulholland believes greater investment in domestic talent will both boost revenue streams and strengthen the national team's long-term prospects.
