Chelsea Complete Signing of Danny Welbeck from Brighton

Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton, adding an experienced forward to Xabi Alonso's squad ahead of the new season.

The club announced that Welbeck, 35, has signed a contract through to 2028 and will link up with his new teammates during Chelsea's pre-season tour. The England international has earned 42 caps for his country throughout his career.

A career spanning English football's biggest clubs

Welbeck began his journey at Manchester United, where he developed into a key player under Sir Alex Ferguson. During his time at Old Trafford, he won the Premier League, lifted the League Cup twice, claimed the Community Shield, and was part of the squad that won the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup.

In September 2014, he made the move to Arsenal, going on to score 32 goals in 126 appearances over five seasons with the Gunners. He also added an FA Cup and a Community Shield to his honours during his time at the Emirates.

Welbeck subsequently moved on to Watford before joining Brighton, where he enjoyed one of his most productive recent campaigns — netting 13 Premier League goals in 37 appearances last season.

Alonso's summer rebuild takes shape

The signing of Welbeck is the latest in a busy summer of recruitment for Chelsea under Alonso. The club have also brought in Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal reported to be a record transfer fee for a British player, alongside Marco Palestra and Geovany Quenda.

Reports also indicate that Chelsea are pursuing a deal for Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson, suggesting further additions may follow before the transfer window closes.
