Chelsea kept their Premier League record flawless with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, though Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna was absent from the Brighton squad after featuring in their 4-0 win over Aston Villa the previous weekend.

Xabi Alonso's side wasted no time asserting control, with Romeo Lavia tapping home in the 4th minute after Mats Wieffer had headed João Pedro's effort off the goal line. The lead doubled just 10 minutes later when Neto converted Morgan Rogers' cross with an audacious first-time finish off the outside of his right boot.

Pedro's mixed afternoon

João Pedro, who was jeered by Brighton's travelling support throughout the match, squandered a gilt-edged chance to reduce the deficit when he stroked wide inside the area with the goal at his mercy. He did eventually get on the scoresheet, however, converting Jorrel Hato's pass to give Chelsea a 3-0 lead.

Brighton refused to capitulate. Malick Yalcouye sparked the comeback with a blistering volley that beat the Chelsea goalkeeper, before Yalcouye turned provider as Pedro inadvertently turned Pascal Gross's cross into his own net shortly after the hour mark, making it 3-2.

Palmer seals it for Chelsea

Cole Palmer steadied nerves in the 74th minute with a driving run and composed finish to restore a two-goal cushion. Brighton snatched another late consolation through a Gross header, but it was not enough to deny Chelsea all three points.

The win gives Alonso back-to-back victories at the start of his Stamford Bridge tenure, following Chelsea's 3-2 opening-day win over Fulham. Yohanna, who had caught the eye in Brighton's emphatic win over Aston Villa, was omitted entirely from the squad for this fixture — a notable absence for the young Nigerian winger.
