Chelsea have wrapped up the signing of Atalanta and Italy right-back Marco Palestra on a deal worth around £47 million including add-ons, with the 21-year-old committing to a six-year contract that carries the option of a further year.
The move makes Palestra the first player to arrive at Stamford Bridge under new manager Xabi Alonso, and ends a transfer battle with Inter Milan, whom Palestra had reportedly agreed to rejoin as his childhood club. Chelsea topped Inter's £43 million offer and, according to Italian sources, presented a more attractive wage package to seal the deal.
