Chelsea Land Morgan Rogers in £117m British Record Deal

3 hours ago·1 min

Chelsea have had a £117m bid accepted by Aston Villa for forward Morgan Rogers, setting a new British transfer record and ending Arsenal's pursuit of their top target this summer.

The 23-year-old had been identified as Arsenal's priority signing ahead of the 2026-27 season, with an approach expected once the FIFA World Cup 2026 concluded. Chelsea moved first, however, and Villa have accepted the fee — surpassing the previous British record set just weeks earlier when Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest £116m for Elliot Anderson.

Rogers' rise from Middlesbrough to England starter

Rogers joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in 2024 for a fee of £16m. In just two seasons at Villa Park, he transformed from a promising young attacker into a fully established England international, earning 21 caps in the process.

Last season, Rogers delivered 14 goals and 11 assists across 55 appearances — a return that attracted the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate's successor and helped secure his place in England's squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

He featured five times during the tournament, most notably providing the assist for Anthony Gordon's goal in England's semi-final defeat to Argentina.

Further details of the move are expected to follow.
