Cherki Matches Gündogan's Premier League Feat in Man City's Comeback Win Over Bournemouth

1 hour ago·1 min

Rayan Cherki made an immediate impact off the bench, registering two assists to help Manchester City recover from a goal down and beat Bournemouth 2-1 in their Premier League opener on Sunday.

Cherki's contribution earned him a place in the history books — he became the first Manchester City substitute to provide two assists in a single Premier League match since Ilkay Gündogan achieved the feat against Leeds in December 2021, according to OptaJoe.

How City turned it around

Bournemouth struck first through Marcus Tarvenier, who put the visitors ahead in the 26th minute and left Enzo Maresca's side facing defeat in their opening fixture of the campaign.

Cherki arrived from the bench in the 63rd minute and transformed the contest. In the 84th minute, he whipped in a pinpoint corner that Marc Guehi met with a firm header to level the scores at 1-1.

The winner arrived in the 91st minute when Cherki threaded a precise through ball from the edge of the area to Josko Gvardiol, who slotted calmly past the Bournemouth goalkeeper. The goal was initially disallowed for offside but was reinstated following a VAR review, sealing a dramatic three points for City.
