Ryan Christie delivered a hat-trick to hand Marco Rose his first victory as Bournemouth manager, with the Cherries dismantling Championship side Lincoln 4-0 in the Carabao Cup third round at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday.

Christie broke the deadlock after just seven minutes, finishing neatly at the near post from Ben Gannon-Doak's cross. It was a controlled, clinical opener that set the tone for the evening.

Lincoln offered some resistance in a competitive first half. Bournemouth goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio — making his debut on loan from Juventus — made an early stop to deny Dan Oyegoke, while Lincoln's Joe Gauci produced a smart save to keep out Bafode Diakite's header from a long throw. Christie's curling 20-yard effort was palmed away by Gauci in the final moments of the half as the score remained 1-0 at the break.

The Scotland international doubled Bournemouth's advantage in the 69th minute, heading in David Brooks' corner at the far post. It was a moment that effectively ended Lincoln's resistance.

Christie then completed his treble in the 88th minute with a deflected 14-yard finish after Diakite set him up, securing his second career hat-trick.

Substitute Rayan added the gloss with a composed finish from the corner of the six-yard box in stoppage time to complete a 4-0 rout.

Rose's changes and Lincoln's response

Rose made eight changes from his Premier League starting lineup. Alvaro Rodriguez, signed for £21 million, made his first start as a Uruguayan striker for the Cherries and endured a frustrating night — he slipped when clean through on goal, headed inches wide from James Hill's cross, and saw another effort glance off his head and fly over the crossbar. Only Lincoln's Ryley Towler retained his place from their previous match, a 1-1 draw against Southampton.

Gannon-Doak was lively throughout, having a shot blocked by Towler and twice firing long-range efforts over the bar. Hill also smashed a 25-yard piledriver against the angle of post and crossbar before Julio Soler curled wide from distance.

Rose will be eager to build on this result after picking up just two points from his first three Premier League outings — defeats that featured late goals conceded against Manchester City, Everton, and Newcastle.
