Todd Boehly is stepping down as Chelsea chairman after selling his stake in the club to majority owner Clearlake Capital, ending a tenure that began with the consortium's high-profile acquisition of the Premier League club in 2022.
Director Mark Walter has also divested his shareholding, with Clearlake — led by co-founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano — now holding full ownership of the Blues. Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss, who held an equal 12.8 percent stake alongside Boehly and Walter, will stay on as a stakeholder and partner within the ownership group.
Prior to these transactions, Clearlake held 61.5 percent of the club, with Boehly, Walter, and Wyss each controlling 12.8 percent. The consolidation of Walter's and Boehly's shares gives Clearlake outright control of one of English football's biggest clubs.
Chelsea's statement on the transition
In an official statement released on Wednesday night, Chelsea acknowledged the scale of investment made under the joint ownership structure since 2022, citing improvements to the men's and women's senior squads, youth development, training facilities at Cobham, and the club's medical and player-support infrastructure.
