Coventry City Close in on £17m Eintracht Frankfurt Defender Aurele Amenda

Coventry City are on the verge of completing a deal for Switzerland international centre-back Aurele Amenda, with the Eintracht Frankfurt defender set to cost the newly promoted Premier League club in excess of £17m.
The fee is structured as an initial payment of £15.4m, with a further £1.7m available in performance-related add-ons. Amenda is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Sky Blues.
Reports indicate that manager Frank Lampard and Coventry's recruitment team mounted a compelling case to attract Amenda, ultimately convincing the defender to make the move to the English top flight.
Switzerland defender ready for Premier League
Amenda featured in Switzerland's World Cup squad, as the nation reached the quarter-finals of the tournament, though he did not take to the field during the competition.
Should the transfer be confirmed, Amenda would become Coventry's third addition of the summer. The club have already secured winger Loum Tchaouna from Burnley and made midfielder Frank Onyeka's loan from Brentford permanent.
Goalkeeper search continues
Coventry remain eager to bring in goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton, though negotiations have stalled and no agreement has been reached so far. Chelsea's Filip Jorgensen has emerged as an alternative target should the Rushworth deal prove impossible to conclude.
After extending Lampard's contract ahead of the new season, Coventry opened their pre-season schedule with a 3-2 friendly defeat to Wimbledon, played behind closed doors. The club will face Northampton Town and Espanyol next as they gear up for their first top-flight campaign in 25 years.
