Crystal Palace have seen a verbal offer for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara turned down, with the Ligue 1 club rebuffing a bid reported to exceed £35 million.

The proposed fee would have ranked among the largest in Crystal Palace's history, underlining the high regard in which they hold the 22-year-old Senegal international.

A proven performer at club and country level

Camara has accumulated 49 caps for Senegal and was part of the squad that featured at this summer's World Cup, cementing his reputation as one of Africa's brightest midfield talents.

He arrived at Monaco from Metz in 2024 for a reported 15 million euros (£12.8m), having developed through several prestigious Senegalese youth academies before making the move to France.

Palace's busy summer window

Despite the setback, Crystal Palace have been active in the transfer market this summer. Manager Pierre Sage, who took charge after Oliver Glasner departed to Nottingham Forest, oversaw the earlier signing of Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo.

Since then, the club have added striker Evann Guessand on loan from Aston Villa, brought in winger Dwight McNeil from Everton in a swap deal that saw Brennan Johnson move the other way, and secured former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on a free transfer.

Pre-season finale before Premier League opener

Crystal Palace travel to Freiburg for their final pre-season friendly before launching their Premier League campaign at Everton on Saturday, 22 August.
