Tottenham Hotspur Agree £30 Million Deal to Sell Djed Spence to Inter Milan

Tottenham Hotspur are set to part ways with defender Djed Spence, with Italian journalist Orazio Accomando of SportMediaSet reporting that a deal worth around £30 million — plus bonuses — has been struck with Inter Milan.

Accomando described the transfer as heading toward "imminent closure" in a post on X, with the move seeing Spence step in as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who is heading to Real Madrid.

From Spurs fringe to World Cup standout

Spence, 26, had a difficult period at Tottenham Hotspur after joining the club in 2022 following his promotion-winning loan spell at Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough. He never truly nailed down a regular starting berth in North London, instead spending time on loan at Rennes, Leeds United, and Genoa.

It was only under manager Ange Postecoglou that Spence began to establish himself in the first team — and his form at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America proved transformative. The Kensington-born full-back was among England's more impressive performers as the Three Lions reached the semi-finals, earning him the first of 14 international caps.

Inter Milan, the reigning Italian champions, are understood to have negotiated the fee down from an initial asking price of £35 million. Spence is reportedly set to sign a long-term contract running until 2031 at the San Siro.

Versatility a key asset for Chivu's side

Capable of playing at right wing-back and on the left, Spence offers Inter Milan manager Cristian Chivu considerable flexibility as he looks to defend the Scudetto. The defender follows England international team-mate John Stones in making the move to the San Siro this summer.

At Tottenham Hotspur, Pedro Porro — a World Cup winner — is expected to be the first-choice right-back heading into the new Premier League season, with Destiny Udogie set to hold down the left-back position. Cristian Romero is also reported to be on the verge of leaving the club, with Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Arsenal all said to have been involved in negotiations over the Argentine centre-back.

Transfermarkt values Spence at €40 million. Tottenham Hotspur open their Premier League campaign against Brentford.
