CS Sfaxien Knock Out Shooting Stars to Advance in CAF Confederation Cup

Iyed Belwafi struck twice as CS Sfaxien overturned a first-leg deficit to beat Shooting Stars 2-0 in Sfax on Sunday, eliminating the Nigerian club from the CAF Confederation Cup on a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.

The home side had trailed by a single goal from the first leg, but Belwafi erased that disadvantage in the 26th minute, levelling the tie on aggregate with a composed finish.

The striker then put the contest beyond doubt in the 67th minute, completing his brace and handing CS Sfaxien a commanding 2-0 lead on the night — enough to send them through to the second preliminary round.

Shooting Stars pushed hard for a response but could not breach the resolute CS Sfaxien backline, ending their continental campaign for the season.

El-Kanemi Warriors also through

Nigeria's second representative in the competition, El-Kanemi Warriors, fared better, securing passage to the next round with a 3-1 aggregate triumph over Guinea-Bissau side UDIB.

El-Kanemi Warriors will now face Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca in the second preliminary round, with a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage the prize for the winner.
